Treating Hip Pain, Sciatica and Piriformis Syndrome with Acupuncture

In today's world where we sit often and move less, a very common kind of pain I see is low back pain, hip pain, hip arthritis and sciatica. These conditions are extremely prevalent and can negatively impact the quality of your life. There are many factors that may be contributing to your hip pain. Some of the variables for your pain may be local muscular pain, referred pain from your sacroiliac joint or low back, neurological pain from the sciatic nerve, arthritic pain in your hip joint or lack of immobility leading to all of the following. As you can see, your hip pain can come from many causes. Acupuncture is a highly beneficial option for hip pain and sciatica. Acupuncture treatments will relieve your pain and get you functioning again. The relief you experience can be as immediate as a few treatments.

In our office, we specialize in pain management along with sports injuries. My countless experience in treatment low back pain, hip pain and sciatica is consistent treatments. Each therapeutic session cumulatively builds on each other. I encourage a course of treatment for twice a week until the pain relief is achieved. After we have reached the goal of getting you out of pain, weekly treatments for 6 to 8 weeks will assist in supporting the pain from returning. These are maintenance treatments. As the treatments are cumulative in relieving your pain, so is staying healthy! As you build your functioning and become pain free, your health cumulatively strengthens and restores.

Acupuncture treats Sciatica

What is sciatica and how can acupuncture get me out of pain? To begin, we need to discuss what sciatic pain is. Sciatic pain begins with your sciatic nerve. This nerve originates in your spinal cord runs through your hips, down to your buttocks (glutes) and along the back of your legs (hamstrings). The significant aspect of this pain is the pathway down this nerve. The pain can be excruciating and consistent. It may even come and go throughout the day during a certain action. You may not have to even move and you will get this radiating pain through the back of your leg. it is common to have other associated pain in your low back, leg and pelvic regions. These other associated pains are called referred pain. Your body has a mysterious way of distributing the load of pain. Sciatica untreated can be a detrimental over the months and years to come. If untreated you run the risk of the following syndromes- herniated disks, tightening of the piriformis muscle, narrowing of your spine (spinal stenosis), nerve tumors and displaced vertebrae (spondylolisthesis).

Acupuncture is an effective way to treat sciatica and prevent further risks associated with sciatic pain. Acupuncture treatments relieve pain, restore function, promote blood flow and release natural pain relieving chemicals into your blood stream. Along with Acupuncture, we do massage, prescribe herbs if necessary and do cupping therapy to assist in the acceleration of the healing process. A complimentary consultation will let you know if Acupuncture and these therapies right for you. Call our office to schedule your 30 min consultation, fill this form here.
