Its not everyday you meet a living legend in Oriental Medicine!! I was fortunate enough; not only to meet Nigel Dawes, but create his Kampo workshop in October. Nigel Dawes is a renowned expert in Kampo Herbal Prescriptions and author. His book, Kampo: A Clinical Guide to Theory and Practice, has influenced many acupuncturist to approach herbal medicine in a new light.
What is Kampo anyways? Kampō (or Kanpō) is a traditional Japanese therapeutic system, which is derived from the classical Chinese medicine that came to Japan in the 5th and 6th centuries. Over the years, the Japanese have created unique diagnostic methods, herbal formulas, and therapeutic approaches. The main difference between Chinese Herbal Medicine and Kampō Herbal Medicine is the diagnosis. Herbalist will prescribe based on pulse, abdominal diagnosis, state of patient. In addition, the dosage of herbs within the formulas are generally smaller. Attending and directing the workshop was an honor. Looking forward on creating more workshops here in the west coast for Acupuncturist. Stay tuned and feel free to email me for more information on attending! Comments are closed.
